Images of the Day - Towns progression

I posted a while ago about a disused building that is smack bang in the center of out town. It used to be the old town hall but a new town hall was build. The story goes on.

If you would like to read the original post please follow the below link
Images of the Day - Local town

This is how our town hall look back in the mid 1980's

Taken from Alan and Georges old Merthyr website

Here is how the old town hall was back in February 2012

And here it is in May 2012. Changing a little, they have started with the scaffolding, and the anti peeking boards are up.

I'll try my best to keep the progression photos going to see where it takes up in the future.

Images of the Day - 30 years on

Evening all (good afternoon to all my friends in the USA) I thought for today's photos I would share with you one of favorite aspects of photography; derelict and old buildings

This is the hospital that i was born during the early eighties (im not going to divulge what year though lol). This is the Merthyr General hospital, and and some facts before the photos

Opened in 1888, served as the general hospital for all the coal, steel and iron workers.
In 198? it gave birth to me. !!!!!
It was used as a care home in the late 1990's, then shut down and left to rot.

Here is some additional information and really old photos of this once beautiful building.

And here are the photos of nowerdays

Images of the Day - Water Water Everywhere

Well the weather has been so nice that we had to get out yesterday to make the most of it. A morning spent at the waterfalls locally took my mind off the fuzzy head I awoke with from the night before. Remember the summers BBQ mentioned in the last post, well i might have over indulged a little too much.

Apologies for the quality these were taken with my old bridge camera. I forgot to charge the battery in the SLR.

Images of the Day - Ironworks workhouse (HDR)

These are some of the HDR shots that I had taken while out and about this evening while en route to see Gemma. They are of the old Iron works that dominated the landscape at the beginning of the 1900's

Im getting there slowly with PhotoMatix Pro, lets see what you think.

Images of the Day - Making a splash

Evening all, well its another day of firsts. But not by choice.

I was supposed to go out for a leisurely stroll after work today to take some photos. The moment my clocking out fob hit the machine the heavens opened and it rained and rained and rained and rained.

So I thought I would carry on the wet theme and do some water droplet / splash shots. Now I will say these are a first attempt so dont expect miracles.

I am going to experiment over the coming weeks with it and try to perfect it..... Much like my HDR work

Well enough talk and more action..

Images of the Day - Testing the HDR thing once more

Well the bug has finally caught and im getting more and more immersed into the world of HDR photography.

This is down to pone person and one only, step forward Deno. My fellow blogging bud from across the pond in North Carolina, he runs the following blog whatdoallthesebuttonsdo and is an HDR nut. I have taken alot of inspiration from what he does and though "i wouldnt mind a try of that HDR thingy"

Well I hope you can go to his blog and support the good work he is doing. As for me, here are some more of my efforts so far.

Images of the Day - Countryside Ramblings

As i have an abundance of photos to show you all from the weekend, i want to stagger them out otherwise it all get a bit much to take in in one sitting.

These are the views that we had while en route to the pump house and reservoir, Being part of the Brecon Beacons national park it is a place of outstanding natural beauty.
For this trip I had in tow my two younger brothers who ,while not budding photographers like to get snappy when something interesting is about.
I will introduce you to those two guys later in the post, but for now we look at scenery.

Looking from the trail towards Pen y Fan (peak on the left), I am unsure on how high this is but its pretty high.

I think they might have had issues in the past with campers and the fires that thy light on the mountain side.

I dare you all to try and pronounce our welsh way of saying "no camping please".... it will be fun, trust me.

A small man made waterfall in a near vertical valley bottom. This rainwater from high up in the hill used to be pumped into the pump house. Now it is allowed to flow direct into the reservoir.

The Same stream a little further down.

Now, the fun part.....Introduction time

These as i did say are my two younger brothers Jamie,26 (left) and Harri,17 (right).  Jamie has just finished studying his masters degree in ancient Egyptian archaeology. Pretty clever guy.
Harri is studying for his A levels in High School, and wants to become a religious historian.

Whilst having a break from all that hard graft we get every opportunity to do some brotherly bonding, we dont need much persuasion to go out together though.

And the all important gang shot. !!!!

Cheers guys to a top day out..... where will out adventures lead us next.

Images of the Day - Neuadd Pump house

Following on from yesterdays HDR's of the pump house I thought it was worth taking you all on a whirlwind tour of the place.

Now, from what i am told photos of this nature are known as URBEX or UE an abbreviation of Urban Exploration.  A full and detailed summary of this activity can be found at the following Wiki link HERE. In short it is the exploration of old abandon or neglected sites of commercial or industrial construction.

Here are some of the photos taken inside the reservoir pumping house. It has been inactive to decades, while the majority of it has been bricked up to stop access they left one door at the rear open.

Images of the Day - Pump House HDR

After a lovely walk in the Brecon Beacons countryside with my two brothers today we stumbled across an old pump house for a secluded reservoir. The reservoir had been cut off from access by car and the only way to get to it was a 2 hour hike.

I got plenty of shots to share with your from that walk but i got to test out my new found love for HDR. comments and criticism are very welcome.

here are the images that made up that last shot of the tank, they were combine in PhotoMatix Pro, Tonemapped to bring out all of the tonal ranges then into PS CS5 for some level and curve adjustment. Finished off with a high pass filter to finish off
