I was out again this morning in the sticks to see what i could stumble apon. I have driven past this place but forgot what fond memories it held.
Up until 4-5 years ago this run down ramshackle of a building was a local watering hole for the local rambling community. Called the Pontsarn Inn, it was synonymous among the locals and as soon as spring came and the nights grey shorter you could guarantee a good crowd there.
But as times grew hard people stopped going to the public houses and this fell victim as a result.
A photo in its heyday back in 2004
And as it stands today

ReplyDeleteit is indeed the same building, looks like the top coat of paint has been weathered away, what do you mean by siding type? once i find out i will hopefully answer you question.

Wow, that is quite a difference. A very interesting looking building in both photos though. Very nicely captured, I really like the colors in the last photo.

I hate to see a great place like that fall silent. It looks like a place I would have liked to visit and have a drink. Big difference in the two photos.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt like to try and get in there for a look though. They have got one almight big dog in there !!!!
DeleteAww, that's a bit depressing. That's the one by the church and Robert Crawshay's grave, yeah? I remember walking past the place when it was in full swing.
ReplyDeleteNo, this is the one by the aberglais (near the blue pool). The one your thinking of is the Church tavern
DeleteAhh right, gotcha. I've only a vague recollection of this one, then. Nicely done on the colours of #2 :)
DeleteI love old buildings, these photos are great Shaun.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for stopping by at my blog and for your comment earlier.
Have a great Sunday!

Sad, truly sad. Great photos as well.
ReplyDeleteWow, hard to imagine it the same place but I can see it is. It makes one wonder what the locals are doing now to while away their time.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable how the building has changed. It's so great that you had the previous photo to compare. Wouldn't it be wonderful for someone to come along and refurbish this place. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we all won the lottery! Oh, well....a sign of the times.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe it's the same place.. far too many good old pubs closing around here as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week..
Interesting and sad at the same time. What a beautiful building and you really captured the vintage essence of it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like stucco and paint have been removed - maybe someone wants to restore it to long ago glory!
ReplyDeleteHow sad to see such a great old building fall into disrepair. I'll bet it was a fun place to hang out! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos Shaun! I really enjoyed the Vaynor pictures too!
wow it looks like two completely different places...it looks so happy only 8 short years ago and now it looks so depressed and lonely, it's still beautiful though! i hope the future is kinder to it and someone purchases this nice little place and fixes her all up!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Shaun! I do love the old pubs in the UK.... so much history.
ReplyDeleteLovely little houses and colours! Both shots are great.
ReplyDeleteThat's the one by the Pontsarn Viaduct, right? I remember going there with my girlfriend when I lived nearby in the '90s. Didn't know it had closed - sad to see.
